AUSTIN TX Now Requires Permits for Electric Door Locks
All electric door lock installations require that a building permit be obtained from the Development Services Department (DSD) Commercial Building Plan Review. The use of electric strike locks, electric mortise locks and electrified cylindrical locksets, delayed egress door locks & electromagnetic door locks must allow free egress at all times. The 2013 edition of NFPA 72 the National Fire Alarm & Signaling Code quietly slipped in a revised list of transmission channels under 26.6.3.2 Digital Alarm Communicator Systems in the Supervising Station Alarm Systems chapter. The section 26.6.3.2.1.4 (A) states that any system employing a DACT shall employ one telephone line and one of the following transmission means: One-way private radio alarm system, Two-way RF multiplex system or a device using a performance based technology. The days of 2 telephone lines are over.
All testing and inspection reports are to be send to the web-based ComplianceCenter. If your customers buildings have any of the fire protection systems listed, the test and inspection reports for these systems are now required to be filed electronically.
